I can't believe today is November 10. We are already into the second week of November. Fall seems to be quickly fading out, and welcoming winter in. This means the heat is on, at least inside. The dry heat can do a number on our hair and skin. I noticed today my son's legs were already starting to get dry and rough. It's best to be proactive to help our "outer" beauty shine through.
First, let's start with the inside. How much water are you drinking daily? I mean, straight water. Let's not count our three cups of coffee as a substitute- water based or not. According to the Mayo Clinic, the body requires between nine to thirteen cups of water per day. Water helps improve elasticity and overall health of your skin. This will ensure a nice, natural glow.
Next, what type of lotion are you using? It's best not to go straight for the one with the lowest price tag. Each lotion is made differently for each skin type. You won't necessarily have to run to a high end store such as Sephora. (Although, I have a total addiction to Sephora, but that's for another day). There are several lotions rated very highly on CVS.com. Talking to your doctor can also provide help. For myself, I need a very thick, less greasy lotion. My hands are constantly being exposed to water and air due to my career as a stylist. No one wants rough, scaly hands, especially touching their faces during a wax service. Yuck!
Dry hair? Ends splitting? I have been there, and done that. Ignore those cheap shampoo commercials. There is nothing more irritating to a stylist than seeing some photo shopped model claiming $4.00 shampoo fixed their split ends. You know what repairs split ends? A good trim! This will actually help hair grow longer in a shorter amount of time. After the trim, a good home care system is something that every girl and guy needs. I am a Matrix Biolage girl. I have been since I was 13. Not only does it smell amazing, but it brings my coarse hair to a more manageable and smooth texture. Using a heat protectant spray is important before blow drying. If you are not a fan of product, this will not weigh your hair down. It protects it from the dry heat. Like hot tools? Before straightening or curling, always, always, always use an additional heat protectant. Even if it is just a thin veil of hair spray. Your hot tool will absorb the product and spare the natural oil in your hair.
Have a good rest of your Monday. Cheers to a good and beautiful week.
